Happy International Youth day!

FICE International has a long-term tradition of organization youth camps and conferences in parallel with its Congresses, dating back to 1949.

In 1949 a youth camp was organized in Moulin-Vieux, France, with the participation of 43 children from sixteen European countries. These children continued to play an important role in future FICE and UNESCO events, especially in future youth camps.

In the period from 2000 to 2006 FICE organized a series of Peace and Friendship Camps that aimed to bring together children from different sides of the Balkan conflict in Hungary, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Montenegro, Serbia, Bosnia-Herzegovina) and Macedonia. The culmination of these events was at the Young People’s Conference at Sarajevo, Bosnia-Herzegovina in 2006.

In parallel to the 2010 FICE Congress in Stellenbosch (with a preparatory phase of 3 days), 33 youth delegates from 4 countries met: 4 youth from Denmark, 5 from the Netherlands, 1 from Canada and 23 from South Africa. The 33rd FICE Congress in Vienna was held in 2016. One week before it started 53 young adults from 15 countries came together in the "Be the Change" youth exchange, co-funded by the Erasmus + Programme of the European Commission. They develped a Declaration with 10 Standards for Care Leavers. Check out the 10 Standards in this Brochure.

Young people were also part of the 34th FICE Congress in Tel Aviv, Israel in 2019 and presented several artistic performances.

Youth participation will be a big component of the next Congress of FICE in 2022 in Dakar, Senegal. Stay tuned for more information on the upcoming Congress!
